DMG ICON Fluorosis Treatment
Erase white spot stains on teeth — no drilling, no needles, in a single visit.
DMG ICON is a clinically proven resin infiltration treatment that erases white spot lesions caused by fluorosis, post-orthodontic demineralisation, or early developmental enamel defects — without drilling or removing any tooth structure. ICON works by infiltrating a patented low-viscosity resin directly into the porous enamel beneath the white spot, filling the microscopic pores and restoring the tooth's natural optical properties. The white appearance disappears because the refractive index of the infiltrated enamel now matches the surrounding healthy enamel. The result is immediate, stable, and preserves your natural tooth completely.
Signs You May Need This Treatment
- 1White or chalky spots visible on the front teeth
- 2White patches that appeared during or after braces treatment
- 3Uneven tooth colour with bright white areas that do not match the surrounding tooth
- 4Fluorosis — white or brown discolouration from excess fluoride during tooth development
- 5Early childhood enamel defects showing as white spots
- 6You are self-conscious about white marks on your smile
What Happens During Your Visit
Assessment & Consultation
The dentist assesses the white spot lesions — their size, depth, and cause. Photographs are taken. ICON suitability is confirmed. The treatment is explained in full.
Isolation
A rubber dam is placed to isolate the tooth and protect the gums. This keeps the treatment area clean and dry throughout.
Surface Conditioning (Icon-Etch)
A gentle acid gel (Icon-Etch, 15% hydrochloric acid) is applied for 2 minutes to open the pores in the lesion body, allowing the resin to penetrate deeply. The gel is rinsed off thoroughly.
Drying (Icon-Dry)
An ethanol-based drying agent (Icon-Dry) is applied to remove moisture from the pores and give a preview of the expected result. You can see the white spot become less visible at this stage.
Resin Infiltration (Icon-Infiltrant)
The ICON resin infiltrant is applied to the lesion and left for 3 minutes to penetrate the pore network. The resin fills the empty pores, replacing the air that was causing the white opaque appearance.
Light Curing & Repeat Infiltration
Excess resin is removed and the tooth is light-cured for 40 seconds. A second application of the infiltrant is performed for 1 minute to ensure complete penetration, then light-cured again.
Finishing & Polishing
The rubber dam is removed. The tooth surface is polished to a smooth finish. Results are reviewed with the patient. Most cases are completed in a single appointment.
